Due to some personal reasons,  I will quit my present job in 2010 in order to rear (raise)my small baby (only one year old) by myself. Last year, We put him in the(a) remote village to stayed with his grandparents.
From now on, I must absorb some teaching materials to develop and cultivate my small baby's intelligence and the action as well. To my disappointment, I found I was at a loss what to teach.(I was disappointed to discover I'm at a loss to know what to teach.)
I kindly beg for some advice(not advices) from all the friends here.
Could anyone give me a hand?

Here's my thoughts.  First, let me say I'm not an expert in early childhood education.  But I did help raise two children, I spent two years teaching preschool age children, and I have some experience in teaching.  Here's my recommendations.

I believe people worry too much about trying to teach very young children to read.  Young children do not have the eyesight or the patience needed to learn to read.  So I would recommend you use other methods to teach your child.

Early childhood education experts have words for two types of "hand to eye coordination skills."  They call them "fine motor skills" and "gross motor skills."   You need to think about these two terms and allow your child to learn these types of skills.  Gross motor skills use the body's large muscles of the arms and legs.  Fine motor skills use the body's smaller motors, the muscles of the hands and those muscles that are used in balance.

A one year old child is learning gross motor skills.  Those skills would be running, walking, feeding himself (or herself), reaching for things, etc.  Young children need experiences that allow them to manipulate their world.  So I would encourage you to think of "teaching" as helping your child learn how the world around him works and how he can maneuver within it.  Important skills include simple things like safety such as 1) how to avoid collisions with people and cars and bikes, 2) how to avoid poisons such as bleach, lye, or other household chemicals, etc.  A child who becomes involved in an accident might be killed or maimed for life.  You want your child to have a safe and happy childhood, so concentrate on teaching simple safety and make sure you home is safe.  I know one American family who's young child drank bleech.  This damaged the child's throat for the rest of her life.  So teaching safety is extremely important.

Second, I would emphasize fine motor skills such as drawing (not writing), using scissors (round pointed children's scissors at first), or using glue and other things like that.  I would NOT give a young child a coloring book.  Instead, I would give the child blank paper to write on and let the child draw free hand.  A coloring book restricts the child's creativity.  We don't need to learn to color within lines.  We need, as young children, to learn to be creative and learn how to write by scribbling.  Sure, the child will not draw a perfect picture.  It is a learning process and takes practice.  The simple act of drawing will teach the child how to move her hand and fingers and control her motions (called fine motor skills).

One of the most important things you can do is read to your child.  The child will listen to your voice and imitate it.  In addition, they will hear and see you reading and they will want to be able to do that themselves.  As the child sees you enjoying reading, over time they will want to seek out books for themselves.  One of the happiest times I had in my life was sitting on my mother's bed with my brothers and sisters and listening to her read stories.  It is an educational experience because the child has to use his brain to understand the story.

Childhood should not be all books and study.  A child needs time to play and breathe, to explore the world around her and to learn to enjoy simple things.  Fine motor skills include things like tying shoelaces.  Gross motor skills include walking down a board or log and keeping your balance.  A very young child will find much stimulation in the simple things in life.

When I taught preschool children, ages 3-5, I was not trying to teach the children to read.  I taught them to begin to recognize letters, sure!  But my goal was to get them to begin to look at shapes, not letters.  What is a triangle or a square or pentagon?  What do the words "alike" and "different" mean?  I taught simple concepts.

For many years, I have said "anyone who wants to teach college should be required to teach preschool for one year first.  That is because young children need to learn simple things.  If you can simplify math, English, or biology into things a 3 year old can understand, then I am confident you can teach college."  Teaching, for young children, means thinking simply.  You have to become a child.  You are not trying to make a child become an adult.  You have the job and the joy of learning to play again and learning what it is about play that is teaching.  Playing with blocks or small toys teaches a young child fine motor control.  Teachinga  child how to hold a pencil teaches fine motor control.  Don't expect a one year old to write a book!  Enjoy the freedom of writing without having to write words!  The skill you are teaching is not one that can be tests on a written exam.  You are teaching things much easier than that.  You are teaching how to live in a world like ours, how to be responsible.  Even a toddler can pick up paper and put in in the trash, how to feed a pet, or how to put dirty clothes in the proper location to be washed.

You have one of my favorite jobs!  Teaching a child is very rewarding!

    English:
    >>in order to rear my small baby (only one year old) by myself.
I suggest: "in order to stay home with my one year old child."  While rearing a child is used as a phrase, it tends to be used more in formal writing such as in books.  For discussing with friends I would be more likely to say "to raise" a child.

    >>the remote village to stayed with his grandparents.
The word "the" implies there is only one remote village.   I would have used "a" which implies it is one of many remote villages.  The next part can be confusing.  I would say "to stay" because AT THAT TIME it was present tense and not past tense.  So I would not have said "to stayed."  Currently you can say "he stayed with his grandparents" but you "took him to stay with his grandparents" at that past time.

    >>To my disappointment, I found I was at a loss what to teach.
That's a fairly good sentence but it can be improved.  "I was disappointed to discover I'm at a loss to know what to teach.

    >>some advices
"Advice" is always written without an S.  We never say "advices."  Sorry!

I hope that helps.  You want to teach.  But you should also allow your child to teach you too!  You get lo learn how to be a child again and how to enjoy simple things like a butterfly!  As adults we tend to forget the world around us that feeds us.  Watch a snail move or look at a baby bird in its nest.  There's a world of things to learn by observation and children love to observe!  Teaching is not all books and pencils.  It is learning about things and not just learning how to make money!  HA!
